Silver Origin: Made for the Galapagos

With the continued popularity of expedition cruises and an increasing desire for immersive experiences that can be both authentic and luxurious, the cruise industry is certainly stepping up its game to deliver incredible innovations. Hot on the heels of Celebrity Cruises’ specially designed Galapagos ship, Celebrity Flora, comes Silversea’s Silver Origin. Also designed entirely for the Galapagos, with the intention of immersing guests in this unique destination, Silver Origin will embark on her maiden voyage in July 2020 and tickets are now on sale.

“The Galapagos Islands are one of the world’s greatest pristine wonderlands. It will be our honour to unlock the authentic beauty of this region for guests, as they journey aboard the environmentally conscious Silver Origin, enjoying the ship’s understated elegance and all-inclusive comforts and luxuries.”

– Fernando Delgado, Vice President of Silversea

More and more, the environment is at the forefront of our considerations when making travel plans. With this in mind, Silver Origin, which meets the highest standards of energy efficiency, will use a dynamic positioning system to prevent the ship’s anchor form causing damage to delicate seabed ecosystems. What’s more, each suite will feature its own water purification system that converts seawater into drinking water, and guests will be gifted a metallic reusable bottle, thus dramatically reducing the amount of single-use plastics on board.

Silver Origin is an intimate all-suite ship with a maximum capacity of just 100 guests. There are eight categories of suites but each one is butler-serviced and features a private veranda or Horizon Balcony so that every guest can enjoy spectacular views of the Galapagos landscape. Silver Origin’s suites are some of the most spacious in Galapagos cruising and come replete with luxury amenities including a fully stocked mini-bar, in-suite dining, unlimited complimentary Wi-Fi and more.

The new ultra-luxury ship, which is replacing the award-winning Silver Galapagos, will alternate two seven-night itineraries between Baltra and San Cristobal. Highlights of the voyages will include witnessing the area’s unique wildlife species in their natural habitats, exploring unusual geological features such as Sullivan Bay’s lava flow and discovering unexpected historical sites such as the one-time pirate refuge of Buccaneer’s Cove.

With Origin’s contingent of kayaks and a fleet of eight Zodiacs (the largest in the region on a per-guest basis) guests will be able to get closer to creatures such as giant tortoises, sea lions, penguins, turtles, reef sharks and many more. In addition, excursions will benefit from the expert insights of local naturalists, with one for every ten guests on board.

In addition to the seven-nights itineraries, there are also two extended voyages planned to celebrate the holiday season in 2020, an 11-day sailing over Christmas followed by a 12-day New Year’s cruise.
