Malaysia’s best spa hotels

For most of us, holidays are about relaxing, getting away from the daily grind and recharging our batteries.

One of the best ways to make sure you’ll fully unwind on your holiday is to book a break at a spa hotel and where better to get away from it all than the deserted beaches and remote rainforests of Malaysia. Travel Bureau partner Kuoni has found three of the finest luxury spa retreats in Malaysia, all offering first-rate pampering in jaw-droppingly beautiful settings.

Gaya Island Resort

As the name suggests, this resort, almost hidden in the jungle in Borneo, is all about getting back to nature. As well as traditional treatments (the Rolling Waves massage for tension release comes highly recommended) you can also join guided meditation and yoga classes at the Spa Village. Don’t miss the resort’s Marine Centre where you can learn about their work caring for endangered green sea turtles.

Tanjong Jara Resort

This authentic resort offers a traditional spa experience using ancient Malay therapies. The resort, with it’s award-winning spa, is located off the beaten track on Malaysia’s unspoilt east coast. Everyone knows that cute animals are good for personal wellbeing and Tanjong Jara is no exception – the resort also has its very own turtle hatchery. Visit between April and October for nesting and hatching.

Pangkor Laut Resort

Opera legend Pavarotti once described the private island on which this resort is set as “paradise” – so that’s not a bad start is it! This intimate resort, tucked away in the rainforest, has one of Malaysia’s best spas. Each treatment at Pangkor Laut begins with a free Bath House Ritual, which includes a Chinese foot experience as well as a Japanese-style cleansing ceremony.
