Canary Islands

About This Destination

Lying just off the north-west coast of Africa, the Canary Islands are famous for their year-round weather, making them a great value option for a winter sun holiday. Each of the main four islands has its own character and between Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Fuerteventura you’re bound to find a spot that suits you.

The south of Gran Canaria has so much to offer; you can enjoy a classic Spanish beach holiday, explore the famous sand dunes of Maspalomas, dine in the restaurants right on the promenade of Meloneras, or if you’re looking for something more lively, head to party capital Playa del Inglés. Lanzarote is brilliant for the beautiful beaches and idyllic white-washed villas of its east coast and you might not know that it also has its very own wine-producing region. Tenerife has some fantastic 5* properties, like the stunning Ritz-Carlton Abama and while the south of the island might get the best of the weather, the north is loved by hikers, cyclists and stargazers who go to climb Mount Teide.

Danielle loved taking a guided tour of the interior of Gran Canaria, almost half of which is protected by UNESCO as a biosphere reserve. Drive through the Fataga Valley and San Bartolome stopping en route to enjoy the dramatic volcanic landscapes and impressive views, sample local tapas in the traditional Spanish town of Teror and finish up with a wander around the cathedral and museums of Las Palmas’ old quarter.
