About This Destination

Encompassing so many of Asia’s most enticing attractions the Indonesian island of Bali is a paradise for anyone seeking to indulge in the exotic. The island’s landscape moves from pristine oceans and palm-fringed beaches, through vibrant green rice paddies to jungle-clad volcanic mountains. On the coast a soothing breeze drifts over the warm sea, which holds troves of marine life within its waters. Most hotels here are blessed with ocean views and direct beach access, letting guests truly unwind in the tropical style.

It’s also worth trekking to the heart of the island to explore some of Bali’s amazing ancient temples. The magical Ulun Danu Bratan seems to float above the lake from which it takes its name and at sunset the orange-soaked lagoon is particularly beautiful. Farther east, the Pura Besakih Temple is steeped in the history of Balinese culture and the Hindu religion: rituals take place daily and there are over 70 festivals held amid its shrines each year.

Spending time in Ubud, as well as some of the beautiful coastal resorts, is an absolute must. The jungle scenery here is spectacular and there are a myriad of small local art galleries and traditional craft shops to explore. Our personal travel expert Joanne recommends a three-night stay in Ubud, which is only about a 2-hour transfer from some of Bali’s loveliest beach resorts.
