Itineraries in this region range from short hops to the Great Barrier Reef to exploration cruises around Australia’s northwest Kimberly Coast and longer itineraries visiting New Zealand and the South Pacific. A great year-round destination, a cruise is a great way to see the vast areas of this region in one trip. The best time to cruise falls between October and April, where you’ll find the most varied departures. However, if you’re heading to the Gold Coast, June to August is the best time to see the Reef. A dream voyage around the coast of Australia, on to New Zealand and the islands of Fiji, Samoa and Tonga, will really showcase the best the region has to offer.
If you’re heading to Eastern Australia, the Great Barrier Reef will certainly be top of your to-do list and we think the best way to experience it is as part of a wider, land-based itinerary. Fly into Sydney and take in the Opera House, Harbour Bridge and Manley beaches before heading to Queensland for your cruise. Kimberly Coast in Western Australia is one of the world’s last real wildernesses. Between Darwin and Broome, you can explore the sandstone hills of the Bungle Bungles, marvel at the vertical canyons and plunging waterfalls of the King George River and learn about native Aboriginal culture at Vansittart Bay.
